- A soaked stranger in a trench coat comes in out of the rain. Stranger: “It's raining hard out there!” Stranger: “Say fella, do you have a phone in this place?” Zak: “Is in back.”
- A purple ghost with yellow eyes whispers to Zak. In the back, the stranger picks up the phone. Ghost whispers: “You should stay here...” Zak: “Screw Rex, I should just stay here tonight...” Ghost whispers: “You like this place...” Zak: “This place aint that bad.” Stranger: “Hello?!” Rex: “Zak, you got that address yet?” Stranger: “Ummm... no... I don't know any Zak... I'm hanging up now...”
- The stranger stands beside Zak at the counter. Stranger: “Thanks for the phone.” Stranger: “That's odd, a storm like that should have lasted all night...” Stranger: “But there's not a cloud in sight now.” Zak: “This can only mean one thing....”
- Zak and the stranger lean in close. Stranger: “Yeah? And what's that?” Zak: “Hell, I dunno!”
-

- Zak sits on Walker's couch with a game controller. Zak: “You moved my stuff in here?! I expected less of you Walker... a lot less.” Walker: “I'm not a bad guy, I just hate you...” Walker: “And 90% of the rest of civilisation.” Zak: “Yes, and hate is generally expressed with things... like fire!”
- Walker throws up his hands. Zak shrugs. Walker: “So what are you gonna do now?!” Zak: “I don't know... hobos do ok don't they?!” Zak: “With their cardboard boxes?” Zak: “And I have been meaning to work on my hobo beard!” Walker shouts: “Fine!! - Stan wraps an arm around Walker, who seethes. Stan: “Someone needs a huuuuuggg” Walker: “Get away from me, and die.”
- Walker folds his arms. Zak looks up from his screen. Zak: “You're such a skeptical critic, instead of bad mouthing me and my mates and whinging, why not just sit down with us and join in.” Walker: “Pfft, like I'm going to do that.” Zak: “Who knows, you might enjoy it.”
- Zak reads from behind his game master's screen.
- Walker sits down at the table, between Zak and Stan. Walker: “Fine... I'll play for 10 minutes, just keep your fun lovin friend away from me.” Stan: “No touching?” Walker shouts: “No touching!!”

- Dave, in green, is suspicious. Walker scratches his chin. Dave: “You sure you've never played this game before?” Walker: “Never, must be beginners luck or something.” Sound effect: Scratch Dave: “This must be like when Bruce Lee discovered he was good at kung fu.”
- Walker and Zak talk after the game. Walker: “Well that wasn't completely unpleasant except when Stan managed to land a critical allowing him to molest a century year old necromancer to death.” Zak: “See, and to think you'd of missed out on all that if you'd gone on being a whiney bitch.” Walker: “Just another example of how you're an ass.”
- Walker sees the gamers out. Stan leaves with his trousers over his arm and his hairy legs bare. Walker: “Soooo... I take it I'm going to be inconvenienced by this little nerd ritual of yours on a regular basis?” Zak: “Looks that way...” Zak: “Considering Dave's place is no bigger than a hobo's refrigerator box and Stan's...” Zak: “Well, let's just not go there. It looks like your place is the only real option.”
- Dave shivers inside a cardboard box. Dave: “Sooo cold.” Dave: “Oh god how it's cold.” Sound effect: Shiver shiver

-
- Walker, now in a red cap, and Zak step out of a lift. Walker: “If you're going to do this, you're going to need to register yourself a business, find a place, get a loan-” Zak: “Why the interest? It's not like you to help people out other than yourself.”
- Walker raises a finger. Zak smirks. Walker: “That's just not true... I help people out all the time.” Zak: “Oh yeah? When?” Walker: “Just last week, a little old... well I... that is...” Walker: “--Ok fine, I want you to make money so you can give it all to me.”
- They walk down the street together. Walker: “Location, location, location.” Walker: “It's what they say... but where would you look to sell this stuff?” Zak: “Well there is this one place...”

- Zak backs away, hands up, as the Pope grins and pokes him. Zak: “Heh... you know... maybe this was a mistake...” Sound effect: Touch Zak: “Don't get me wrong. Jesus, he's great. I'm down with him and big G...” Zak: “I'll just go find a little less... crazy a pope to help me with my ghost problem.”

- The Pope smiles.
- The Pope edges away, hand raised. Behind him, the dead shop owner stirs. Pope: “I'm picking up something in the spiritual...” Pope: “There's a sinner who desperately needs delivering.”
- Through the door, the Pope speeds away in a car. Pope: “Good luck with all that!” Sound effect: Shreeeeeechhhhh
- Zak throws his arms up happily. Zak: “Ahhhh, ghost free and all mine!” Zak: “I think I'm ready to set this bitch up.”
- A green clawed hand pushes up the trapdoor in the floor with a growl. Sound effect: Ggghrrraaahhhrrrhhhh

- Rex shrugs. Sydney gives a thumbs up. Rex: “Well... we could see a movie, I get free tickets.” Sydney: “Free tickets?! That's exactly what we need!”
- Sydney lowers her sunglasses and points at Rex suspiciously. Sydney: “Wait... you don't do dodgy things to get them do you?!” Rex: “Nah, I work at the cinemas. - In the cinema foyer, Rex hands Sydney some money. Rex: “Here, I have to go into the office and fill out a slip for our tickets. While I'm gone, did you want to go to the candy bar and get us some popcorn and drinks?” Sydney: “Sure, I reckon I can do that.”
- A blond usher with a quiff grins and points at Rex, who holds up his hands. Usher: “Go Rex, you old rascal you!” Rex: “Wha? Oh, you mean Sydney?” Rex: “Nah, it's not like that. I only met her last night.” Usher: “Woohoaaah, the old “I just met her last night” eh?”
- At the candy bar, Sydney talks to a red-haired attendant. Sydney: “It's like this: we're hanging out all day, and I think he's a cool guy, but that's it. He's not really my type.” Sydney: “I might be leading him on, I think he likes me.” Candy girl: “Does he know you're not into him?”
- Rex talks to the usher. Rex: “See, I don't want to make a big deal over it. I mean, I want to be her friend...” Usher: “--So you figure if you don't bring it up, sooner or later she'll get the hint.” Rex: “That was pretty much my game plan, yeah.”
- The candy girl leans in. Sydney looks alarmed. Candy girl: “Unless, he's brought you here to make his move.” Sydney: “No, you don't think...” Sydney: “It's just a movie...” Candy girl: “Movie spells date if you ask me.”
- Sydney jabs a finger at the counter, fist raised. Sydney: “The only thing I asked for, was my tasty treats.” Sydney shouts: “Now gimme.”
-
- Rex and Sydney sit stiffly side by side in the cinema with their popcorn and drinks. Rex thinks: “Ok, I don't want to give off any clear signals that I don't like her that way...” Sydney thinks: “I should avoid confrontation at all costs.”
- Rex shifts awkwardly in his seat. Rex thinks: “I can't sit too close to her... that's like, a signal that you want to smooch.” Rex thinks: “Distance, check.” Rex thinks: “Ok. What am I doing... I'm too far away now.” Rex thinks: “I can't sit too far away, that says: ‘I don't like you at all’”
- Rex agonises over the armrest as Sydney eats popcorn. Rex thinks: “Oh my god. What are my elbows doing?!” Rex thinks: “I can't hang them over her side of the seat... but at the same time, I can't have no elbows either...” Rex thinks: “That looks like I'm uncomfortable and draws attention to myself.”
- Rex sweats. Rex thinks: “Man this is awkward... how did it come to this!?” Rex thinks: “I shouldn't have hung around all day with her after that coffee, that should have been it for the day...” Rex thinks: “How do I tell her ‘let's be friends?’” Rex thinks: “What if she breaks down on me?!”
- Sydney offers Rex the popcorn. Rex freezes. Sydney: “Do you want some popcorn?” Rex thinks: “She knows!!”
-
- Leaving the cinema, Sydney holds the empty popcorn box. Rex looks uncomfortable. Sydney: “Soooooo, what'd you think of the movie?!” Rex: “Oh. Ummmm, it was ok.” Sydney: “My favourite part was whe-” Rex: “Yeah. Sure. That was great.”
- Sydney points at Rex accusingly. Sydney: “Why are you acting all weird all of a sudden?!” Sydney: “It's like you're thinking about something.” Sydney: “In fact, it's like you've been thinking about something for the last 2 hours!” Rex: “Well... uhhhh, I guess there's something you should know...”
- Rex and Sydney blurt it out at the same time. Rex shouts: “I don't want to go out with you!!!” Sydney shouts: “I'm not looking to date!”
- They stare at each other. Rex: “So you don't...” Sydney: “And you didn't want to...” Rex: “Ha, are you kidding?”
- From behind, the two walk off together. Rex: “I'm glad we got that sorted out.” Sydney: “Damn straight!”
-
- In a shop, Sydney tries on a hat. Rex waits nearby. Sydney: “Hey, you feeling more yourself now?” Rex: “What do you mean?!” Sydney: “Well, before when you thought I liked you, you kind of...” Sydney: “...clammed up on me.”
- Sydney, in a red cap, pays at the counter. Rex shrugs. Rex: “I guess I just didn't know how to deal with the situation, and panicked.” Sydney: “Does that happen a lot when you're around girls?” Rex: “Not all girls, just the pretty ones.”
- Rex and Sydney, in silhouette, walk into an arcade. Sydney: “Why is that?!” Sydney: “What's so terrifying about us girls?” Rex: “You don't understand, I fit into the ‘nice guy’ category. Do you know how much pressure that puts on a guy?”
- They pick up light guns at an arcade shooting game. Sydney: “I don't know what that has to do with anything, sorry.” Rex: “It's like this...” Rex: “Girls are attracted to bad boys.” Rex: “There is something about a bad boy, where they can treat a girl like crap, and the girl will love them in return. I don't fully understand how that works, but the evidence is all around.”
- Sydney and Rex aim their guns at the screen. Rex: “The good guy on the other hand has to play all his cards right to get the girl. He doesn't have the ability to treat a girl like crap, it's contrary to his nature. If he screws up, that's it.” Sydney: “You've thought about this a lot haven't you.” Rex: “Is that bad?”
-
- Rex and Sydney walk through a shopping centre with drinks. Sydney: “I think you could be more popular with girls.” Rex: “Really? Why do you say that?” Sydney: “Cause, you're not just a ‘nice guy’, you're also kinda cool too, and you're fun to hang out with.”
- Sydney swings her arms enthusiastically as she talks. Sydney: “As long as you're being yourself, you don't need to worry about what you should and shouldn't say.” Sydney: “You know, girls aren't after the salespitch, they want the product.” Sydney: “Especially if it's a red hot sale.”
- In a clothes shop with sale signs, Sydney holds up a top while Rex sips his drink. Sydney: “You know what your real problem is?” Sydney: “When you're around pretty girls, I think your confidence goes out the window.”
- A memory: a woman (Monika) kisses a wide-eyed Rex on the cheek, while a little character that is Rex's confidence eggs him on. Monika: “Thanks for your valentines card. It was really sweet.” Rex: “Uuuhhhhh....” Confidence: “I swear to god, if you don't go in for a hoo-hoo grab I may never forgive you!” Narration: “Comic #131.”
- Rex sits on a bench as Sydney pulls a top on over her bra. Rex: “Trust me on one thing. My confidence gets me into nothing but trouble.” Sydney: “Trouble or no, girls love a guy with confidence.” Rex: “Does it have to be confidence though? Won't spontaneity or creativity cut it?”
-
- At sunset, Rex stands by his car as Sydney leans on it. Sydney: “Where to now?” Rex: “I was thinking I'd call it a night, we've done a lot today, so I'm going to go home and kick my feet up.” Rex: “Where can I drop you off?”
- Sydney talk, backed by a sunset sky. Sydney: “Drop me off?! The night's still young, let's go out and party!” Rex: “It's a Sunday night... and I have to go to work in the morning.” Sydney: “But you only live once!”
- Close up of Rex, concerned. Rex: “I've only just met you, and I might not know you very well or anything, but...”
- Close up of Sydney, caught off guard. Rex: “...Are you in some kind of trouble or something at your house?”
- Sydney looks away. Sydney: “I'm not in any trouble... I'm just... kinda, taking a break from my dad.” Rex: “What, is he a bad guy or something?” Sydney: “No, no... he's not a bad guy.”
- Sydney shouts in frustration. Sydney shouts: “He's just so damned controlling!!” Sydney: “Never letting me be myself...”
- Sydney scowls. Sydney: “He's got this image of his little girl...” Sydney: “...And the only way I get him off my back is by fitting his mould.”
- Sydney grits her teeth. Sydney shouts: “I'm just so suffocated!” Sydney: “...He never gives me room to breathe!”
- Sydney catches her breath. Sound effect: Gasp gasp
- Sydney grins at Rex. Sydney: “But apart from that he's great!”
-
- Rex drives Sydney through the city at night. Rex: “You said your dad lives out of town, right?” Sydney: “Trust me on at least one thing...” Sydney: “If you drop me off home, at my dad's house...” Sydney: “He is going to get the wrong impression.” Rex: “I don't get it, why would he get the wrong impression?” Rex: “I'm just giving you a lift home.”
- Sydney gestures as she explains. Sydney: “Let me spell it out for you.” Sydney: “Daddy's little girl, has been away for a week, touring the local pubs with her band only to come back with some guy he's never seen before.” Sydney: “He's going to be so impressed.”
- Rex, driving, looks across at Sydney. Rex: “Well what am I supposed to do?” Rex: “You need somewhere to go, and I feel somewhat responsible for what you do next.” Sydney: “I appreciate what you're trying to do here, but I don't need a knight in shining armour to help me.”
- The red car speeds through the night. Sydney: “I'm 18 now, I'm working...” Sydney: “My plan is to move out. I just haven't broken it to him yet.” Rex: “Why do I have a weird feeling this is all coming back to that ‘room for rent’ sign hanging on the window in my house?!”
- Sydney grins and pumps her fist. Sydney: “What's weird about that?!” Sydney: “I think it's a great idea and I accept the offer!” Rex: “Wait...” Rex shouts: “What the hell just happened?!”
-
- Back at Rex's house, Rex lays down the law. Sydney shrugs. Rex: “Ok, here's the deal... you can crash here again tonight, but then in the morning you have to sort out this dealio with your dad.” Sydney: “Ok, fine.” Sydney: “Tomorrow I'll call dad and tell him I'm moving out.” Rex: “No, I meant you can go home, to your dad's...” Rex: “Were you serious about moving in here?!”
- Sydney flops onto the couch. Sydney: “Yeah, of course I was serious.” Sydney: “The way I see it, you were meant to pass out on me at that bar, and I was meant to carry you (which by the way was very strenuous)” Sydney: “Back to your house...” Sydney: “...where, what do I find? A room for rent sign.” Sydney: “I'm telling you. That's fate.”
- Rex hands Sydney a drink. Rex: “You know, I don't think I've ever heard of fate in such a context...” Rex: “Usually it includes some aspect of romanticism.” Sydney: “That's all good too, but what I really need is a place to hang my hat.”
- Rex leans forward on the couch. Rex: “Look, I'm really sorry... and it's a shame, because I really do need someone to move in, and I think you'd be a great room mate...” Rex: “But, you need to sort stuff out with your dad before you can even think about moving in here.”
- Rex rubs his head. Sydney makes an offer. Rex: “I need peace of mind that your dad won't come around here one day and accuse me of the unspeakable.” Sydney: “If I moved in... I could give you pointers with Monika...”
- Sydney sips her drink. Rex thinks it over, hand on chin.
- Rex points at Sydney. Rex: “When did you say you're moving in?”
-
- Sydney cheers. Rex looks wary. Sydney: “Yay, yay, yay!!” Sydney: “This is going to be way cool! We should have some sort of ritual to commemorate the occasion, like burning your ‘room for rent’ sign!” Rex: “I don't endorse the use of flames in my house... I probably should have put that in the fine print.”
- Sydney leans on Rex's shoulder. Sydney: “I've got a better idea.” Sydney: “Let's go for a drive and pick up all of my gear.” Rex: “From your dad's place? Now?” Sydney: “Yeah, why not!”
- Sydney drags Rex towards the door. Rex: “Well, we can if you want.” Rex: “It could be a good opportunity for you to talk to your dad.” Sydney: “Yeah, I agree, so let's go!” Rex: “Fine, I'll just go get my keys... and maybe a jacket. It's pretty cold out.”
- Sydney peeks around a doorway at Rex. Sydney: “Can you do me a small favour?” Rex: “Depends on the favour.” Sydney: “Wear black pants?” Rex: “What?? Why do they have to be black?!”
- Rex pulls on black trousers as Sydney leans in the doorway. Rex: “All this black! What is your dad an old retired goth or something?” Sydney: “Yeah, he's all about ‘life is pain’!”
-
- Night. Sydney, now dressed in black, points out a house from the car. Sydney: “Ok, that's the house over there.” Rex: “Which one?!” Sydney: “The one with the flag.”
- Sydney gives instructions. Rex glances over, suspicious. Sydney: “We're getting close. Turn off your lights.” Rex: “Explain to me why?” Sydney: “Ok... I'm not going to lie to you, we've got to break in to get my gear.” Rex: “Syd, you've been lying to me all night.”
- Parked under a streetlight, Rex argues with Sydney by the car. Rex: “Why can't we just knock on the door and explain things to him?” Rex: “It's only 9:30 at night, surely he's not in bed.” Sydney: “Lights out at 7:30, wake up at daybreak. He'll be asleep alright.” Rex: “So you're telling me... your dad's not a goth?” Sydney: “No. Now could you pop the boot please?”
- Sydney pulls a grappling launcher out of the boot. Rex: “Holy shit! Is that a climbing claw!?” Sydney: “We'll need it to get on the roof. That's our point of entry.” Rex: “Who are you?”
- Sydney pulls on a black beanie and hands one to Rex. Sydney: “...You'll need this.” Rex: “You realise my criminal record is clean, right?” Rex: “This jeopardises my chances of getting into a prestigious law firm, or becoming a brain surgeon.” Sydney: “I thought you were an artist?!”
- Rex opens his mouth to argue.
- Rex concedes. Rex: “...Touché...”
-
- A large dark house with a flagpole out front. Rex: “I can't believe you're actually going to break into your dad's house.” Sydney: “Oh come on, you can't tell me you've never done this before!?” Sydney: “This is practically a ‘must do’ activity before you die.”
- Sydney aims the claw launcher. Rex watches. Sydney: “You've not lived boy.” Sydney: “Consider tonight a mission to liberate you from your comfort zones.”
- The launcher fires. Sound effect: Pfoosh
- The claw catches on the roof. Sound effect: Clang
- The two crouch on the lawn, rope in hand. Sydney: “I don't want you getting us into any trouble so stay close.”
- Looking up the rope as Sydney climbs above Rex. Sydney: “Are you scared of heights?” Sydney: “The trick is, don't look down.” Rex: “Don't look down... got it.”
-
- Inside, Rex holds an apple from a bowl as something clicks. Sydney turns, alarmed. Sydney: “Ok, be careful. You don't want to make a wrong step in here... there are a lot of booby traps.” Sound effect: Click Rex: “Uhhhh...”
- Sydney's burly dad sits bolt upright in bed as an alarm sounds. Sound effect: Awwoooogaaaa Dad shouts: “Code red! Code red!”
- Sydney winces. Sydney: “Awwww crap. Not code red!”
- Her dad, in boxer shorts, rushes a small boy holding a teddy bear down the hall. Sound effect: Awwwwwoooooooogggggaaaaa Dad: “Into the panic room son. Don't open it for anyone, hear me?” Dad: “Not even for me!” Dad: “If I'm not back by morning, the cyanide capsules are under the bench. You know what to do.”
- In Sydney's bedroom, she stuffs clothes into a bag as Rex grabs things. Sydney: “We've got 10, maybe 20 seconds!” Rex: “Until what?” Sydney: “Tea and scones... what do you think!”
-
- Sydney climbs out of the window. Rex reaches after her. Sydney: “Stay here Rex, I'll be right back.” Rex shouts: “What?” Rex: “You can't leave! No, leaving is an extremely bad idea at this specific moment in time.”
- Rex panics as Sydney's dad appears in the doorway, a dark silhouette. Dad: “You picked the wrong house to break into punk. I'm going to hit you so hard you'll be spitting teeth for a week!” Rex: “Not the teeth! Why always the teeth?!”
- A dart hits Sydney's dad in the neck. Sound effect: Thuck Dad: “A tranquilizer dart...” Dad: “You win this round masked intruder.”
- Sydney, holding a dart gun, stands over her unconscious dad with Rex. Rex: “You tranked your own dad? That's harsh!” Sydney: “What would you rather, a mouth full of gums?” Sydney: “Besides, this is only a mild dose. He's only going to be out for about 5 minutes.”
- Rex and Sydney lean out of an upstairs window, high above the bushes. Sydney: “No time to go out the front door, we're going to have to jump.” Rex: “We're two floors up, I can't jump!” Sydney: “Don't be a pussy, there's bushes to break your fall.” Rex shouts: “Bushes!” Rex: “Now I feel a lot better about this!”
-
- Rex runs across the lawn with Sydney's bags, Sydney close behind. Sydney shouts: “Leg it!” Sydney: “Now isn't this a more entertaining way of spending a Sunday night than sitting at home watching television?” Rex: “Oh yes! We should make this a tradition. Every Sunday we'll go out, break the law and try to get killed.”
- They throw the bags into Rex's car. Sydney: “We need to drive. Fast!” Sydney: “You think my dad will just report this and get the police to do the rest?” Sydney: “Make no mistake, he's gonna chase us! Just as soon as he wakes up.”
- The car screeches away down a dark road. Sound effect: Eeeeeeeeee Rex: “Why is it that some brute like guy wants to rip out my teeth when I interact with girls?” Rex: “It's like a curse or something...” Rex: “The curse of Rex!”
- A bright light floods the car. Rex: “What the hell? What's this light?” Sydney: “Don't look up, just drive!”
- A helicopter with a searchlight hovers over the car. Sound effect: Whump whump Rex: “I'm sure it's nothing...”
-
- Rex drives, a helicopter in the rear-view mirror. Sydney looks back. Rex: “Is it just me, or is there a helicopter behind us?” Sydney: “It's my dad... I told you he'd chase us!” Rex: “Yes, but in his helicopter? I guess I should be glad he didn't take out the tank!” Sydney: “Don't be silly. He'd never catch you in his tank.” Rex: “You're not helping Syd!”
- Rex grips the wheel. Rex: “Better hold on tight...” Rex: “I'm gonna try to lose your dad!”
- Rex changes gear.
- His foot slams the accelerator.
- The car races along the road, the helicopter close behind. Sound effect: Vroom Sound effect: Whumpwhumpwhump
- Something drops from the helicopter. Sound effect: Click
- Spikes are fired at the road.
- A spike strip lands across the road ahead. Sound effect: Thud thud
- Rex's eyes go wide.
- A tyre bursts. Sound effect: Pop
- Rex and Sydney scream as the car skids out of control. Rex shouts: “Aaaaagggghhhh!”
-
- The car has stopped by the trees. Rex clutches his head; Sydney walks over. Rex shouts: “My car!” Sydney: “Don't worry about your car, it's just got a flat tire. We'll change it with the spare and get back on the road.”
- Sydney sees her dad's figure approaching through the trees. Sydney: “Or... plan B.” Rex: “What's plan B?” Sydney shouts: “Run!”
- Masked, Rex and Sydney run through the dark woods. Sydney: “He's landed the helicopter... he'll be following our tracks.” Rex: “Oh and won't it be fun when he finds us.” Sydney: “I think we're gonna need a trap.”
- Sydney pushes Rex into a hollow log, then leaves. Sydney: “Get in there and hide or somethin.” Rex: “Oi, where you goin? You can't leave a man behind.”
- Sydney's dad grabs Rex in a headlock. Dad: “You thought you could get away from me huh?” Sound effect: Gaaaaa Dad: “They called me the Iron Bear in the army, you wanna know why?” Dad: “Cause I have the strength of a bear, and will of iron. That's why!” Dad: “Where's your partner in crime? There were 2 of you...” Rex: “You're never gonna find her old man, no doubt she's half way to Mexico by now.” Dad: “She? So your accomplice is a girl... perhaps your girlfriend?”
- A rope loops around the dad's ankle.
- Sydney swings down from a tree on the rope. Sound effect: Vrrrrrrr
- The dad snatches the balaclava off Rex's head. Sound effect: Snatch
- The dad dangles upside down from a tree in Sydney's trap, pointing at Rex. Dad: “I know your face now, I'll be seeing you real soon!”
- Rex and Sydney run off through the woods. Rex: “Syd, he's seen my face! I'm so dead!” Sydney: “Believe me, things would have been worse had he seen mine.”
-
- The next day, Walker carries a box of miniatures. Zak strokes his chin. Narration: “The next day.” Walker: “So, have you come up with a name for this abysmal pit of nerdity yet?” Zak: “Yeah, I thought of one.”
- Outside the shop, Zak throws his arms wide. Zak shouts: “Make with the gaming!”
- Inside the half-stocked shop, Walker turns to Zak. Walker: “Why would you call it that?” Zak: “I just thought it was funny.” Walker: “That's ridiculous, what if you couldn't make with the gaming?” Zak: “What do you mean?”
- Walker mimes an outraged customer. Walker: “Well, if for some reason people thought the games you stocked were lame, they'd be screaming:” Walker shouts: “This isn't gaming! Where's the gaming? You guys are lame!” Zak: “Pfft, like anyone would have so little to do with their time to complain about that..”
- Walker gives a sarcastic thumbs up. Zak grins. Walker: “At this rate, you might as well call it “Uncle Zak's porn + paper gaming store”.” Zak: “Oooo I like that one too! Let's flip for it.”
-
- Zak holds a coin on his thumb. Walker folds his arms. Zak: “Call it.” Walker: “Heads!” Zak: “You know, I wonder where the term heads or tails came from.” Walker: “Coins ain't got tails.”
- From above, the coin spins in the air between them. Zak: “I'd say it came from some literal term.” Walker: “What, like flipping some animal in the air?” Zak: “Yeah, why not?”
- Medieval times: a knight stands by a catapult loaded with a cow, beside an old peasant. Knight: “Dost thou chooseth heads or tails?” Peasant: “Heads, m'lord.”
- The catapult flings the cow into the sky. Sound effect: Mooooooooo
- Dead cows lie scattered across a field below a castle. Knight: “Tails win again!”
-
- Rex sits with an ice pack on his head. Sydney leans in beside him. Sydney: “Ok loverboy, it's time for your first lesson.” Rex: “You serious?” Rex: “I called in sick at work today because of the ordeal you put me through last night. The only plan I have today is to kick my feet up and take it easy.” Sydney: “Plans change. Especially when love is on the agenda.”
- Sydney shows Rex her freshly painted purple room. Sydney: “Welcome to my room.” Rex: “Wow. When did you get time to paint this?” Sydney: “While you were sleeping, the smell of paint made it impossible for me to sleep.”
- Sydney sits on the bed hugging her knees. Rex rubs his head. Sydney: “Ok, we're going to start with the basics. Let's roleplay.” Sydney: “Pretend I'm Monika and ask me out on a date.” Rex: “Do we really have to?” Sydney: “Of course we do!”
- The roleplay begins. Rex: “Ummm, hi Monika.” Sydney: “Hi Rex.” Rex: “So, do you wanna go on a date... or something?” Sydney: “Oh I'm sorry, I already donated to charity this year.” Sydney: “Loser.”
-
- Rex glares. Sydney lounges on the bed. Rex: “Was shooting me down in roleplay really necessary? Way to boost my confidence!” Sydney: “Well you were terrible!!” Sydney: “If someone I liked asked me out on a date the way you did, I'd kick them in the balls and run.”
- Rex protests. Sydney insists. Rex: “You wouldn't even...” Sydney: “In the balls.” Rex: “But you wouldn't...” Sydney: “And run away.”
- From above, Rex lies on the floor. Sydney sprawls on the bed. Rex: “I don't think it's as easy as that though.” Rex: “Expecting a guy to sweep you off your feet with an opening line is simply unrealistic.” Sydney: “Seriously what is with you?!”
- Sydney makes horns with her fingers. Rex: “What do you mean?” Sydney: “You like this girl?” Rex: “Yes.” Sydney: “You want to go out with her?” Rex: “That's right.” Sydney: “Then what's the problem?” Sydney: “You're a bull and she's the matador.”
- Rex lies on the floor. Sydney gestures. Rex: “You want me to ram her in the stomach with my noggin?” Sydney: “Metaphorically yes, like you've just seen red.” Rex: “But won't that, you know... hurt?” Sydney: “Seriously, in the balls.”
-
- Sydney, with a cap and a guitar case, heads for the door. Sydney: “Ok so I'm going to head out. I have to practice with my band.” Rex: “Hey thanks for all the advice. I'll think it all over and we'll talk about it some more tomorrow or something.” Sydney: “Oh no you don't, you're going to ring her. Tonight!” Rex: “What, why tonight?”
- Close up of Sydney. Sydney: “You need to organise another date with Monika, God knows you've kept her in your back pocket for long enough. You leave it any longer and you run the risk of losing her entirely.” Sydney: “Ring her, be yourself, you'll be fine.” Rex: “Couldn't we go through some roleplays or something, I don't know if I'm ready to do the phone thing yet!”
- Sydney lectures Rex. Sydney: “You need to do this by yourself, I can't hold your hand.” Sydney: “You have to set up your foundation through acts of your own courage, there's no way I can help you do that.” Sydney: “Plus, I won't be back till Friday.” Rex: “What? You only moved in yesterday, where are you going?”
- Sydney waves as she walks off down the street with her guitar. Sydney: “The band and I have a gig coming up in downtown. I figure why not just stay there.” Sydney: “Give me a ring and tell me how it goes.”
- Rex psyches himself up. A small caped superhero with an 'R' on his chest, Rex's Confidence, appears. Rex: “Ok, you're just going to pick up the phone and call her. Easy!” Confidence: “Sydney sure did a number on you! You think cause she's giving you all these tips you don't need me, your confidence.” Confidence: “You disgust me.”
-
- Rex grins on the phone. Behind him, his tiny caped Confidence sulks inside a glass jar. Rex: “I'll cya later Monika. I'll give you a call soon and we'll go out!”
- Rex lets Confidence out of the jar onto the table. Rex: “Hey, sorry to shut you out like that.” Confidence: “An explanation if you please.”
- Close up of Rex explaining. Rex: “Well, it's just everything you were telling me to do was contradicting the instructions Sydney gave me.” Rex: “And let's face it, listening to your advice hasn't exactly delivered any results.”
- Rex beams. Rex: “I gotta tell you though, Sydney's advice really pulled through. Monika really responded to me, and I wasn't even nervous.”
- Confidence clings to Rex's shoulder, panicking. Confidence shouts: “No! You can't get more confident, you can't!” Rex: “What? I thought that's what we both wanted...” Confidence: “Before you were channeling your bottled up confidence, which is me. But this is a whole new radiant confidence... it comes from your entirety.” Confidence: “Soon there'll be no more room for me.”
- Confidence sprouts a scruffy beard. Confidence shouts: “No, it's beginning!” Confidence: “What a fricken asshole you are, not taking into consideration what would happen to lil old me!”
- Confidence is now a bearded bum. Rex's huge eye stares. Rex: “You're a bum now?” Confidence: “All your fault chump! You've channelled me away, into this!”
- Rex smiles. Confidence swigs from a bottle in a paper bag. Rex: “I guess you could always look at the silver lining.” Rex: “I mean, I'm more confident. That's good.” Confidence: “What are you blind? The silver lining is clearly the hooch.”
-
- Rex sits on the couch in silhouette. Confidence lounges on the floor with his bottle. Rex: “Don't be sour Confidence, why don't you be constructive and help me think of something I can do with Monika as a date.” Confidence: “I'm through helping you. Lot of good it did me!” Confidence: “Hold the phone...”
- Rex reads a note from Zak: 'Rex, I'm opening a store in downtown. Bring your bitch face along and hit on some hot chicks (PS you're a dick!) - Zak'. Rex: “Zak is opening a store downtown?” Rex: “This is perfect, tomorrow night he's throwing food and entertainment!”
- Confidence dives into Rex's head with a splash. Confidence: “Mate, everything's just working out for you now I'm out of your hair, aint it?” Confidence: “I hope everything works out for you buddy. Me and my hooch are going to have a private party.” Confidence: “Back into the subconscious I go...”
- Rex, in silhouette, on the phone. Rex: “Monika? It's Rex again.” Rex: “Free tomorrow night?”
- Inside Rex's mind, Confidence shuffles down a gallery of memories, past signs reading 'Temptations' and 'Defining moments'. Confidence: “Rex, I thought we were friends.” Confidence: “I thought I knew you.” Confidence: “You've changed man. You've changed.”
-
- The next night, a huge crowd surrounds Zak's new shop. Narration: “The next night.” Rex: “Wow, Zak has done a great job with the opening. There must be a hundred people here!”
- Rex and Monika, a red-haired woman, in the crowd. Rex: “It's a bit busier than I expected. We should get through this crowd and find --”
- Zak, beaming, holds a tip jar full of money. Rex shouts: “Zak!” Zak: “Rex you slut. You made it!”
- Zak holds out the jar, deadpan. Zak: “That'll be 5 dollars.”
- Rex protests. Monika looks on. Rex: “Whatever happened to mates rates?” Zak: “I'm running a business now man. I can't be giving handouts to my numerous, numerous mates.”
- Zak points at the stage, starry eyed. Zak: “Have you seen the band? Check out the chick on bass. She's so dreamy!”
- On stage, Sydney plays bass with her band. Monika: “Wait, is that Sydney up there?” Rex: “Yeah. Do you know Sydney?”
- Rex shrugs. Monika is horrified. Zak gapes. Rex: “I ought to. She moved into my place yesterday.” Monika shouts: “She what?” Narration: “Fini--”
